Gailene Stock, artistic director of the Royal Ballet School since 1999, has been awarded the CBE for services to dance in the Queen’s Birthday Honours 2013. Trained initially in Australia and then at the Royal Ballet Upper School on a scholarship awarded by the Royal Academy of Dance, Gailene danced as a principal artist with The Australian Ballet, the National Ballet of Canada and the Royal Winnipeg Ballet. Following her dancing career, she directed the National Theatre Ballet School in Victoria for eight years and the Australian Ballet School for nine years, before taking on the role of director of the Royal Ballet School in London. In 1997 Stock was awarded the Order of Australia for services to ballet. Garry Trinder, director of the New Zealand School of Dance, has been appointed a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in recognition of his services to dance. Born in England, Garry Trinder trained at the Royal Ballet School, Rambert School of Ballet and Maurice Béjart’s MUDRA.
Former Dance UK director Jeanette Siddall has been awarded a CBE for services to dance.
Lloyd Newson, founder and director of DV8 and Dr Cynthia Marie Sughrue, chief executive officer and executive producer, Scottish Ballet, are awarded OBEs for services to contemporary dance and dance respectively; Irish dance teacher Norah Brennan was awarded by OBE for services to dance; Wolverhampton based Sheila May Labhart was awarded by OBE for services to dance & charity; Caryl Thomas was awarded an OBE for services to the Cardris Dance Club, Resolven, Neath Port Talbot and to charity.
Motionhouse artistic director Kevin Finnan is awarded an MBE for services to dance and the London 2012 Paralympic Games; Richard Glasstone, choreographer, teacher and author has been awarded by MBE for services to classical ballet; Peter Huggins, associate director, Dance City, is also awarded an MBE.
Howard Panter, the co-founder of the Ambassador Theatre Group and Chair of Rambert Dance Company has been made a knight in the Queen's Birthday Honours list for his services to theatre. Howard has been a driving force in the fundraising and building of Rambert Dance Company’s new building on the Southbank which is due to open later this year
